REMINDER! A  Uncle Harry stood up. B  Dorothy was going up and up. The sentences above show actions in the past, but they use different tenses. We use the Simple Past tense (sentences A) when the action started and finished in the past. In sentences B we use the Past Continuous tense to indicate that the action was continuous. Examples:

Past tense Aunt Em dropped her work and came to the door. Dorothy lived in the middle of the great Kansas prairies. Toto jumped out of Dorothy´s arms.

Past continuous Aunt Em was washing the dishes. Uncle Henry was sitting on the doorstep. Dorothy was standing on the door with Toto in her arms.

I. Complete the sentences. Use Past Simple and Past Continuous.
